Poor Paint Job

I had Ryan from Five Star Painting come out and give me an estimate to paint the cedar portion of my house. We agreed that some wood needed to be replaced, maybe 3-4.

After several days of painting, I noticed the wood was peeling and it looked terrible. I mentioned this to Ryan and he gave me some story about it being cedar and the paint going over the other paint was not the right type of stain or paint. It also was getting colder at night and Ryan seemed to think that as long as it didn't get below freezing, it would be ok to continue painting. However, they put no primer on it and from what I have been speaking to several people, he needed to let me know that the Fall may not have been the best time to paint.

Other painters have said it needed to be primed or scraped before painting. Ryan said they could not scrape cedar.

Anyway, I had them stop the job and now I'm out almost $2,000 which I will not get back. I also have to spend more money to get another painter in here to do it correctly.

I am pretty sure that we do not do any work in Riverside, CA. This comment is from a painter who was on a project that we had to bring in multiple other painters to finish the project as the painter and his crew could not meet quality or keep up with the schedule of the project.

After 278 pictures of poor workmanship and inferior quality that our customer would not approve, our remedy was to bring on more qualified manpower to meet the deadline and basic quality standards. This painter seem to believe that he had unlimited time and funds to complete this project. As with all projects, this had a budget that was well over due to this painter and the inadequate labor he was supervising.

The additional labor came out of his budget and he felt shorted, when actually we were having to pay out more than what we were paid to complete the project. After all, our customer was happy with the remedy but not this crew and they were let go.

I had a similar problem with Five Star Painting in Carrollton, TX. The owner subcontracted the job to someone who then subcontracted it out again to a third person.

The painting was an absolute mess. I had sloppy cut lines, roller marks everywhere, paint on my fixtures and carpet, etc. Despite multiple guarantees and assurances of customer service, the owner failed to take any responsibility to fix issues and made a lot of excuses for the poor workmanship.

I had to pay another company not only to repaint, but also to repair all the damage that Five Star Painting caused. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone after that experience.

I wouldn't have them do any work for you they don't even have a painting crew they sub it all out an then they don't what to pay there subs for the work that they done so stay away from them if you what work done then look a little bit an save your self a lot of head games with them

Customer, owed $1500 for the wood repairs, the paint that is peeping is the primer we put on before it got cold.(The white part on her house)There was a depoist amount of $875 that she cut us at the beginning of the job.(We have labor and materials of over 2k. She cut a 2nd check for only $1000 for the wood repairs. * I guess that the $2000? (It was $1500 in just wood repairs) She has only paid $375 for the painting so far (I'm the one that's out money so far, but I not mad I just want to fix the job and make her happy. I'm meeting her this week to walk her job and fix anything she wants and finish painting or repaint her house if that's what it takes. *She still wants us to do more painting and pay us for it she's says... Not sure how this helps?

It just got to cold to paint last year and now she's selling the house... The house is cedar and you stain cedar... She want it painted???

There is still roting wood all over that house and she just want us to paint over it anyways and where it peeling now is with most for the rot is... We think she should do more repairs (even if it's not us) I'll find out when I see it this week. This is what she doesn't want to hear and why she is now mad at Five Star because she doent want to pay anyone to do any more repairs. She just wants to move and leave it for someone else. And for us to just paint over the bad areas and fix the peeling areas for free.

I hope we can make her happy!?

I work for five star, in another state but regardless. I wouldn't hire someone that spoke English like the supposed owner in this case.

They probably didn't prime anything. That is the five star way
